Former VIVA cover gal has done it again. Williams defeated Angelique Kerber to win the Wimbledon 2016 title, successfully defending her crown and claiming her first major victory in a year. Saturday’s win also meant Williams now has equaled Steffi Graf’s record for the most Open era Grand Slam titles won by a female player. Back when she talked to VIVA for her cover story, Serena said she felt “really young still. I think my body can stand the rigors of stiff competition. Being an athlete makes me never want to give up on different things – whatever I believe in, fight for, I’ll do it again and again until it’s right. That’s what makes me Serena.” Making the Wimbledon finals for the 9th time means the 34 year-old athlete is definitely doing something right.
