This September, Prostate Cancer Awareness Month will be celebrated across America.
With prostate cancer becoming one of the most serious health problems in the United States, raised knowledge about the topic is extremely important. This year, approximately 240,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the United States, making it the most common male malignancy as well as the second most common cause of death from all tumors.
However, there is hope, says Dr. Dudley Danoff, a urologist and author of The Ultimate Guide to Male Sexual Health.
“The key to prostate cancer cure is early diagnosis,” he says. “The good news is that, provided the diagnosis of prostate cancer is made early enough to allow maximal effective treatment, life after prostate cancer, surgery, or other treatment options, can be full, rich, rewarding, and allow a man to be continent, sexually active, and vigorous in all areas of his life.”
While there are no symptoms associated with early prostate cancer, a screening blood test for B-PSA (prostatic specific antigen) makes detection easier. All men aged 40 and over should get a yearly screening, including a digital rectal examination by a qualified physician.
If you or your loved ones are male, please have yourself or them tested—it could save lives.
