As Black History Month unfolds, ESSENCE is gearing up to spotlight the remarkable contributions of Black women in the entertainment industry at the 17th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards. Scheduled for March 7, 2024, in Los Angeles, this event promises to be a celebration of talent, resilience, and the vibrant influence of Black women in Hollywood.
Event Details
Set against the glamorous backdrop of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the 2024 Black Women in Hollywood Awards will honor four distinguished women who have left an indelible mark on the industry. This year’s honorees include the talented Danielle Brooks, an Academy Award-nominated actress and Grammy Award winner; Halle Bailey, a six-time Grammy-nominated singer and acclaimed actress; Nkechi Okoro Carroll, a celebrated screenwriter and showrunner; and Kathryn Busby, a formidable industry leader and President of Original Programming at STARZ.
Host and Theme
The ceremony will be hosted by the multi-talented Cliff “Method Man” Smith, a celebrated actor, Grammy Award-winning rapper, and entrepreneur. This year’s theme, “Radiant Power,” aims to celebrate the strength, grace, and influence of Black women in the television and film industry, especially amid the challenges posed by the recent writers’ and actors’ strike.
Broadcast and Streaming
In a significant partnership, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network will broadcast the awards ceremony, with additional streaming available on Max/discovery+. The event will offer viewers an exclusive glimpse into the pre-Oscar festivities, including red carpet arrivals, award ceremony highlights, and celebrity interviews.

The event will feature networking, mentoring, and skill-building sessions designed to inspire and educate attendees on the breadth of Black excellence in the entertainment industry.
