Depression: Male vs Female
Researchers in the UK have recently exposed how depression effects males and females in different brain regions. The findings also showed that men tend to have a more persistent depression whereas depression in women tends to be more episodic. As well, men are more likely to suffer from substance abuse or attempt suicide due to depression. The study used magnetic resonance imaging while flashing happy, sad, or neutral words to patients both diagnosed with depression and those who do not experience it. Researchers concluded that sex-specific treatment might be necessary to combat symptoms.
