Fall and Winter Months Call For More Vitamin D

The UK is taking important steps to ensure residence are aware of how they can start taking care of their health in a very specific way, with vitamin D. The government has recommended 10 micrograms a day.

Vitamin D plays a huge role in regulating calcium and phosphate in the body, which create healthy growth and maintenance of healthy bones, teeth, and muscles. Issues such as soft, weak and misshapen bones can be credited to vitamin D deficiency.

With autumn and winter months approaching, there will be too little sunlight to rely on that and food alone. Therefore public health officials are encouraging in the colder months, everyone should take into consideration receiving their vitamin D from supplements, if they aren’t eating it enough.

Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) have examined growing evidence that reflect a connection between Vitamin D to bone and muscle health.

Since many parts of Canada are about it endure a very similar sun deprived weather, it’s important to not forget about vitamin D. Maintaining healthy bones, is important for everyone, so taking a page from the UK’s book would be greatly beneficial.
