I really think it’s an intuitive thing. You have to be responsible to your commitments—to your children, to your partner if you have one, to your profession. I can feel when I’m sort of sliding. And I think if you let yourself slide too far away from your own core persona, you might have gone too far and you’re out of balance. There is a beautiful description of that sliding feeling: ‘when you can no longer feel your own skin.’ When you’re beginning to feel numb, I think that’s the time to say you need to make that a moment—a minute of time for yourself to find balance. We need to have that laugh out loud moment with our friends, we need to have that quiet stillness in the merry-go-round of chaos in life.
