Did you know that prolonged sitting is linked to increased risk of breast, colorectal, ovarian, endometrial and prostate cancers as well as weight gain, higher BMI, and obesity?

According to a study, supported by the American Cancer Society, your smartphone can help you stay healthy, sending you prompts to take short walking breaks to reverse negative effects of prolonged sitting.

“Overall, simple smartphone prompts appear to be a promising strategy for reducing sedentary behavior and increasing activity, though adequately-powered and well-designed studies will be needed to confirm these preliminary findings,” authors say.

Just remember that sitting in your office chair uninterruptedly for eight hours is bad for your health, so try setting your phone to send you friendly reminders to move around from time to time.
