With winter upon us and skin getting drier and drier our lips take a beating as well, with chapped, peeling and dry lips causing discomfort and, well, embarrassement….

Whipping up a simple, natural lip scrub at home could be the answer to your woes. An exfoliant for your lips on a regular basis helps to maintain that gorgeous, smooth pout. A lip scrub helps to slough off dead skin cells and creates the perfect canvas for your lip balm to penetrate deeper into the skin.

What’s in a Lip Scrub, Anyway?
A lip scrub contains two elements: an exfoliant and a nourishing agent. The nourishing agent (emollient) provides a hydrating base for your exfoliator, making it easier to apply to your lips. These two go hand in hand for moisturizing and smoothing your lips.

There are tons of recipes for natural lip scrubs, one more delicious than the next, but we’re fans of vanilla, so that’s what we whip up at home and now you can too!

You need just a few simple ingredients from your kitchen cabinet to get started but remember, as delicious as this is, it’s not for eating!

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon unrefined coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Mix the sugar, coconut oil, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl.
  2. Take a small amount and massage it onto your lips for a minute.
  3. Rinse it with warm water.

Why This Works
Coconut oil helps soothe chapped lips and deeply moisturizes them. Sugar helps exfoliate dry and dead skin while vanilla extract helps heal sunburns and adds a delicious, Lucious smell.
