The characters that actor Taryn Manning plays are anything but cover glam. Most of us know her from playing Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett in Orange is the New Black. However, almost all of her roles play characters that have been through a lot and are definitely hardened. “I think I’ve been severely typecast in Hollywood as an edgy type of woman and there certainly isn’t an innocence about me,” Manning told Viva in a recent interview. “I’ve lived a life of independence for a long time. I’ve not done anything terribly bad, but I’m not naive at all.”
Much unlike the characters that Manning plays, in real life she is full of energy and willing to take on anything from acting and fashion design to singing and DJ’ing. Check out her glam-rock look in our Earth issue – on stands soon.
You can also look for Manning in Lifetime’s new movie Cleveland Abduction (in photo here). She plays the role of Michelle Knight who was kidnapped and forced to live in torture for 11 years. Knight was the first girl kidnapped and before they were finally rescued there would be two other girls.
“It was amazing to portray such a strong survivor,” says Manning. “In spite of everything that happened to her she just didn’t give up.”
The movie premieres April 25th.
