Health issue: Emotional Eating
Details: In a moment of crisis or stress, it’s easy to fill your body with comfort foods. My comfort foods have changed over the years, however the idea of emotionally eating remains a constant battle in my life.
Natural solutions: I recently decided to take control of my emotional eating. My first step was to check in with myself and ask: “Am I really hungry?” “Am I just bored/sad/mad?”
My second step was to change the types of food I reached for. When I’m eating to tame my emotions, I look for something sweet. Rather than running to the convenience store, I have searched for healthier alternatives. My new favourite sweet treat is banana soft serve. It’s sweet, has the consistency of a soft serve ice cream, and it has very few ingredients. The ingredients include: 1 frozen banana, ½ cup of milk. That’s it! I put it in a blender, and I have my sweet comfort food treat. I try to make my emotional eating a more conscious and healthier experience.
