Innovative Partnership Tackles Fast Fashion Crisis
Toronto’s George Brown College, through its Brookfield Sustainability Institute, has joined forces with the Canadian tech fashion startup SIXR to address the escalating issue of fast fashion. Their collaborative effort has culminated in the launch of “FOR TOMORROW,” a sustainable hoodie collection. This initiative not only promotes eco-friendly fashion but also offers incentives to consumers for making environmentally responsible choices.
SIXR is redefining the fashion industry’s approach to sustainability. Each hoodie in the “FOR TOMORROW” collection features a unique QR code, allowing customers to track the garment’s lifecycle and understand its environmental impact. When the time comes to retire the hoodie, customers can easily recycle it through SIXR’s system, receiving app credits from the Planet Fund as a reward. This process ensures responsible garment disposal and encourages consumers to be part of the solution to the fast fashion problem.
Design and Features of the FOR TOMORROW Hoodie
Designed by Kai Palo, a fashion student at George Brown College, the FOR TOMORROW hoodie exemplifies sustainable design principles. Available in various colors and sizes, it boasts features like a secure stash pocket and an oversized fit for maximum comfort. The hoodie is crafted using sustainable fibers and equitable labor practices, emphasizing minimal waste and ease of disassembly. This design approach not only enhances the hoodie’s longevity but also aligns with the principles of circular fashion.
