HEALTH ISSUE: Son Sebastian has Milroy syndrome
SYMPTOMS: A very rare congenital abnormality of the lymphatic system that impairs lymph drainage and leads to fluid accumulation in soft tissues, usually the legs (hence the swollen feet). While the disease is not known to affect life expectancy, it does cause severe discomfort and is especially debilitating to children.
HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS: Sebastian is to wear special compression socks every daily, made-to-measure at a clinic every four months to keep up with his pace of growth. Also, it is recommended we perform special lymph massage on his legs and feet every evening for around 15 minutes at a time before Sebastian goes to bed. During sleep, Sebastian is to wear special compression bandages that are applied to his legs and feet every evening.
THE RESULTS: Although there is no cure for this rare disease, by following the medical recommendations of compression socks and vigorous lymphatic massage, the condition will not deteriorate.
