Occupation:
I’m a country singer-songwriter, recording artist, and also a music educator!

What’s your secret food vice?
Nachos. When I try a new restaurant, I usually look to see if they have them on the menu and I make a mental note to go back and try them. Whenever my friends and I go out for drinks and appetizers they always joke and say, “so Alessia’s getting nachos!”

What is your number one comfort food?
I love open-faced tuna melts. It’s a much healthier alternative to fast food, and really easy to make. Mix some tuna, a little bit of mayonnaise, salt and pepper together and place it on top of toasted bread with a slice of cheddar or mozzarella cheese—delicious.

What is your biggest food challenge?
My biggest challenge is maintaining a balanced diet with such a busy schedule. Between rehearsals, writing, performances and teaching, I need to really focus on what I’m eating and when. I also have a sweet tooth!

What keeps you eating a balanced diet?
With my busy schedule I know I need to keep my energy up. To do that, I have to follow as healthy a diet as possible. Of course, I do like to splurge on the occasional slice of pizza or Chinese food, but just in moderation.

Any food dislikes?
Mushrooms shouldn’t count as food!

Any foods you’ve omitted from your diet?
I don’t believe in omitting foods—I eat everything in moderation. That also includes sweets.
What must you always have in your fridge?
I always need to have eggs in the fridge. There are so many different ways to cook them and they’re so easy to make, especially in a rush!

What are some of your go-to meals?
My favourite go-to meal is a piece of rye toast topped with a bit of smashed avocado, a slice of cheddar cheese, and a poached egg. It’s easy to make, and it tastes great.

Strangest food you’ve ever tried?
Pig’s feet.

What is your favourite dish or food to eat in the fall?
My favourite thing to eat during the fall is chili! It’s one of my favourite homemade dishes—plus you can eat it with nacho chips, which makes it that much better. I also love pumpkin pie to satisfy my sweet tooth.

What is your favourite meal to make for guests in your home?
I like to cook pasta with homemade tomato sauce using my Italian grandmother’s recipe. There’s something special about cooking a simple, yet delicious meal.

What is your favourite ingredient to cook with?
Olive oil is a personal favourite. It goes with pretty much everything!

What have you been busy with over the last year?
I’ve been busy writing, rehearsing, and recording my next album, as well as performing. It’s been a whirlwind of a year so far, but I’m really excited to be releasing my album in November.

What’s next for you?
I can’t wait to release my album in November! I’m also excited to attend the CCMAs that are being held in London, Ontario this year. It’s always a great time meeting new people that are involved in the country music industry, as well as meeting up with old friends who I don’t get to see on a regular basis. I also foresee more songwriting trips to Nashville. I always have an amazing time down South!
