The host of The Social and news anchor for CP24 chats about her secret food vices, and what keeps her motivated to eat clean.
by Nancy Ripton

Occupation: Television host and news anchor.
What’s your secret food vice? Chocolate chip cookies – especially my mother-in-law’s homemade ones.
What is your number one comfort food? Vegetarian chili.
What is your biggest food challenge? Staying away from salty foods. After a long day nothing beats salty treats like chips.
What keeps you eating a balanced diet? My biggest motivator for eating well is knowing how it makes me feel. When I eat clean I think better, sleep better and have less bloating.
Any dislikes? I’m vegetarian and haven’t eaten meat since I was 16. I do, however, eat fish and seafood.
What must you always have in your fridge? My favourite go-to snack is vanilla Greek yogurt. It’s filling, delicious and nutritious.
What are some of your go-to meals? My favourite breakfast food is oatmeal. I like protein-packed salads for lunch and I’ll eat Caprese salad anytime, anywhere.
Strangest food you’ve tried? Raw eel.
What’s your favourite winter dish? Mom’s veggie won ton soup.
What is your favourite meal to make for guests in your home? Baked salmon with fresh dill and steamed asparagus.
What is your favourite ingredient to cook with and why? I love baby spinach. I use it in salads and smoothies. I’m also having a love affair with avocado. I eat it with just about everything – sandwiches, salads and dips.
What have you been busy with over the last year? Having a baby and hosting The Social. Marquesa is almost five months old now and I went back to work when she was three months. It’s been a busy few months adjusting to being a working mom, but I’m loving every second of it!

THE SOCIAL airs live weekdays at 1 p.m. ET (2 p.m. AT) on CTV. http://www.thesocial.ca/
